Bio
JD Sweet and Elizabeth Blandin are educators with over 45 years of combined experience teaching at the high school and collegiate levels.  They have been actively engaged in advocacy for equity in education throughout their careers, and in 2006, they created their consulting business, New Phase New Ways, which emphasizes a cultural awareness makeover for schools and businesses. Their approach incorporates individual, curricular, and institutional assessments that contribute to a culturally competent environment.

New Phase New Ways, a consulting firm of educators Elizabeth Blandin and JD Sweet, specializes in helping educators become more culturally aware of themselves and their students. Their trainings and workshops are designed to be engaging and practical and are intended to provide educators with real-time strategies and a renewed sense of confidence in meeting the needs of diverse populations of students and parents, regardless of the differences that may exist between the teachers' value systems and those of their students.

JD Sweet
JD Sweet has been a professional educator for 34 years. Currently he teaches Social Studies at Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, WA, where he has worked since 1977. He has also taught as an adjunct professor of history for Olympic College in Bremerton , WA, and an adjunct professor of Culturally Responsive Teaching at Seattle Pacific University. He holds a BA in History from Claremont Men's College and an MEd from Claremont Graduate School, both located in Claremont, CA.

Elizabeth Blandin
Elizabeth has worked in the education field for 16 years, teaching Literature, Journalism, and Writing at the secondary and university levels. She has actively participated in community organizations, including the Literacy Council of Kitsap. She holds a BA in English from the Pennsylvania State University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University. She has taught as an adjunct professor of Culturally Responsive Teaching at Seattle Pacific University.
